The 24 member preliminary squad’s preparations for the upcoming World Cricket League Championships(WCLC) fixture against Kenya started yesterday at TU Cricket Ground. ( Photo Gallery , Video )
Nepal are hosting Kenya for the 5th rounds of WCLC match on 11th and 13th March. Nepal is currently in 6th spot with wins from 8 matches in the 8 team premier associate cricket league organized by ICC. Kenya are 5th with 4 wins from 8 matches. Namibia and UAE with only 1 win from from 7 matches are placed on 7th and 8th position respectively.
The squad spent 4 hours with fitness trainer Rajesh Chauhan yesterday working on fitness.
The final squad of 14 members with 4 reserve players for the fixture will likely be announced on 4th week of February . The will then team is planning to tour India for their final preparations for the fixture.
A preliminary squad of 24 members was announced on 9th February which included 8 uncapped players. However seasoned players like Subash Khakurel, Naresh Budhayer, Anil Mandal failed to make it to the squad. The team was announced based on performances in Super League and 11 days high performance camp with Dav Whatmore.
7 of the 8 uncapped players have represented Nepal at U-19 level. Sunil Dhamala, Aasif Seikh, Dipendra Airee, Kushal Bhurtel, Amit Shrestha, Sushan Bhari and Dipesh Shrestha have represented Nepal at U-19 level. Dilip Nath who played for Sagarmatha Legends in EPL also made it to the preliminary squad.
