3rd October 2016 will perhaps go down as one of the most remembered day for Nepali fans as  they were fortunate to witness a teenager smash a century in a final of a T20 tournament and help his side Panchakanya Tez beat Colors X-factors by 40 runs.

Batting first upon winning the toss, Tez scored a mammoth 171 runs in their 20 overs courtesy their wicket-keeper batsman, Aasif Sheikh, who made a majestic century. Tez were unable to get off a good start and lost captain Sharad Vesawkar and once again promoted in the batting order Karan KC were dismissed quite early in the piece as the scorecard read 33 for 2 at the end of the powerplay. However, Aasif Sheikh kept getting into rhythm from his end. His almost turned out bo one man show innings as the second highest score of the innings was Sheikh’s own brother Aarif Sheikh’s 23. Aasif Sheikh continued his supreme batting and brought up his hundred, first for any batsman in the tournament, with the help of three consecutive sixes. It was all down to him that Tez included a staggering 85 runs in their last 5 overs. All in all, Sheikh scored 111 of 64 with 7 fours and 8 sixes – those sixes ranging from square leg to cover point.

Chasing a huge total of 172 runs for the target, Colors X-factors were very much in the contest for a long while. X-factors did lose early wickets but were able to maintain a good rate as their top order did not waste time in getting runs. Captain Gyanendra Malla (47 off 32) and Rajesh Pulami (37 off 35) shared a brilliant 74 run stand for the fourth wicket and were in with a decent shout but once Malla threw his wicket after getting set, it was all downhill for X-factors. The match was effectively sealed through a crazy Karan KC over which included 17 runs and eventually Tez emerged victorious by 40 runs margin. Apart from the three for KC, Sushil Kandel, who finished the tournament as the highest wicket taker, and Sharad Vesawkar took two wickets each.

Unbeatean Tez dominated the stats chart with Aasif Sheikh leading the batting and Sushil Kandel leading the bowling chart. Aasif scored 220 runs in the tournament while Kandel Picked up 12 wickets.

Stats of the day

Tez scored 85 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in their last 5 overs while X-factors scored 34 and lost 7 in their last 5 overs they batted him – perhaps what exactly turned out to be the difference between the sides.
